Depth of Field Challenge

February 21, 2010
This was supposed to be for a challenge I read about recently regarding depth of field. Which is to say the amount of the picture that is crisply in focus. I am going to have to look into getting a different lense as mine doesn't currently do this as well as I'd like. Still - a fun picture with good texture and color.

Hobby

February 20, 2010
This would have been a lot cooler if I had more time in my life (I had envisioned a cookout scene complete with little hands, sticks and (really) mini marshmallows). Until then I'll just enjoy the brief moments I have to pull together little things like this.

Converted

February 19, 2010
Well Liberty has done it...she has turned to the pink side with all her might. She is loving pink now, though I have to admit I have my doubts as to how devoted she is to the color...I think she'll still drop it for a few other colors. (And heaven forbid I ask her to eat out of a pink bowl...)

Finding Comfort in the Most Unlikely Places...

February 18, 2010
Liberty is so in love with her exercise mat. I had made her mad somehow so she didn't want to have anything to do with me - so of course the only natural recourse was for her to grab her exercise mat and cuddle up to it on the floor. Hey who am I to judge. ;)

Oh So Good

February 17, 2010
Oh these rolls...honestly this picture doesn't do them justice. The second they came out of the oven I thought 'wow! Those looks so incredible I need to take a picture' then instead of setting them down so they could achieve an appropriate temperature while I retrieved my camera I dug right in, burning appendages. Something about the smell of fresh bread causes all good sense to leak out of one's brain...

30th time is a charm

February 16, 2010
Just when I was contemplating this that or the other I looked down at this boy who had fallen asleep and was struck by how perfect he was. Thankfully I happen to have my camera at that moment so I got ready to snap a picture. As luck would have it I was too close - my camera wouldn't take the picture. So I had to improvise and pull my camera back a little and shoot blind.  Honestly took at least thirty shots before I got this one. When I looked at the picture I was so excited to finally have the moment I had been working to capture. And today I am eternally grateful for digital cameras and the ability to check each shot so I can realign when I can't see what I'm shooting.

Vacuum?

February 15, 2010
This is also a part of the project I'm working (along with the cell phone picture). Okay so maybe not the most inspiring picture but I actually spent half an hour before I got to this point...I just didn't like the way anything was turning out, until I got this angle. I really like the composition. I like how the picture starts with the handle in the top left corner and flows down to the right bottom corner. (And no when I started this project I never thought I would spend that much time photographing a vacuum cleaner.)

Happy Valentine's Day!

This shot looks like it could be a vintage Valentine's greeting. I think it's the all too adorable red dress she's wearing. I love the angle and lighting. I think that I'll have to spend some time in post production with this shot - not because it needs it but because it could be fun.

Mouth Watering

February 13, 2010
Which for this website is saying something since I'm obsessed with food. (I don't even want to go back and count how many food shots I've put up in the last six weeks...) This place was amazing and I got quite a few good food shots - it was really hard to pick just one. On that note I love the way curves look on film.

Phone...

February 12, 2010
For another project I'm working on. Still love the contrast and think the shot turned out rather well.

Making Valentines for 'Love Day'

BFF

*found myself crashing at the end of each day last week - sorry I didn't get these up sooner and thank you for your patience. ;)
February 10, 2010
Cookies and milk just belong together. Nothing better than cold milk and homemade cookies. (Yeah not sure if the BFF is for the cookie/milk relationship or my relationship with cookies and milk...)

Venus Fly Trap

Doesn't it look like one? Apparently little guy is stronger than he realizes. When I walked around the corner to this sight I had to grab my camera. Of course my camera battery was dead (lessoned learned: never loan your camera to your spouse...you never know when they will take 250+ pictures leaving your battery exhausted). I toyed with the idea of letting it charge for a couple minutes before snapping the photo but didn't think Samuel would appreciate that. Not that he seemed all that upset by the situation but you never know what a few more minutes can do. Thank heavens for my phone camera. It may not be the best shot but it saved me from the dilema of no picture vs. worst parent award.

(still running a day behind...at least I'm still getting the pictures taken each day (hooray!) hopefully today I will get caught up.)

Lofty Goodness

Had to make up a new photo board today for the sake of organizing my desk. Red, black, super lofty. Mmmh dribble it in chocolate and it's good enough to eat!
(p.s. this if the picture taken Feb. 8 - fell asleep getting Samuel to bed last night...would love to promise it won't happen again but let's be realistic shall we.)

Cuddling

The girls were so cute cuddled up together playing a Dora game on the gameboy...just had to catch the moment. (If for no other reason than to help me remember that they don't actually fight all the time...)

'It's Cold!'

That's what she kept saying. I agreed with her each time and told her to go back inside until I could help her get her coat on, which was, of course, not feasible. So she sat there and complained about it being an extra couple of seconds while I took this picture. I love the shot - there's something classically wonderful about a super cute little girl dressed to the nines standing on an industrial looking structure. (I also love love love the reflection of her little shoes in the water...just a great touch.)

Three's a Crowd

But a very happy crowd to be sure. This picture has the feel of a doggy pile (even though nobody was actually on top of anybody else) and I think that's why I love it. I love having all three kids in a candid shot like this especially since it's a pretty good one of their faces (despite Lib's best efforts to edge Muska out...). I'm also very pleased with the camera settings I used - skin tone, colors ect all seemed to have come out quite well. Yes I really like this picture.

Pink Soap

As I was washing my hands today I was thinking how much I love the fact that grapefruit can be pink. I love the smell of grapefruit and my daughters love well, pink. They get so excited everytime I buy the 'special pink' soap for them. Really I'd buy it anyway because it smells so good but this way they are so excited to wash their hands. Life is good. (And as a bonus I can easily tell if they haven't washed their hands just by smelling...on that thought my asking to smell the girls hands to double check their washing and rinsing has led to a rise of little hands shoved into my face - they are so eager to have me smell their hands so I know they washed their hands. It's funny how you never know where one little action will go.)

Sprinkles!

Definately a top ten canidate. I LOVE (imagine that in a singing voice that is slightly held out and rises in pitch at the end) sprinkles. I have no idea why but for some reason they make me insanely happy. Giddy even.  Now if you'll excuse me...I have some sprinkles cupcakes to 'take care of'. (And yes I mixed and baked these yesterday and it did indeed take me until today to get them frosted and sprinkled - so despite possible suspicions I did not cheat on my daily photo. ;)

All Mixed Up

I'm just going to put this out there...there aren't many sights as lovely as ripples of chocolate. (Okay it doesn't actually make the top ten list but I'm sure it's on my top twenty.)

Multi Purpose

We use this stool for just about everything...washing hands, craft time, reaching various (lower) items, doing hair...as I was passing by it earlier today I was struck by what an impact a little bit of plastic can have on your life.
